The IBM 4662-12G is a 2U Large Form Factor (LFF) SAS expansion enclosure designed to expand the capacity of the IBM FlashSystem 5200 control enclosure with high-capacity 3.5-inch drives.

The IBM 4662-12G FlashSystem 5200 LFF Expansion Enclosure provides 12 drive slots for 3.5-inch SAS hard disk drives or solid-state flash drives. It attaches to the FlashSystem 5200 control enclosure (models 4662-6H2 or 4662-UH6) via dual 12 Gb SAS connections and includes dual expansion canisters for high availability. This expansion enclosure is optimized for high-capacity Nearline storage and supports a mix of enterprise and archival-class drives while maintaining full IBM Storage Virtualize functionality, including Easy Tier and Distributed RAID.

- Environments: Systems running IBM Storage Virtualize (minimum software level 8.4.0)
- Limitations: Requires proper SAS cabling and the ALBQ feature installed in the control enclosure. Follow IBM SAS chain weight and population rules. Maximum of 20 model 12G enclosures per control enclosure. Verify exact configuration and firmware requirements via IBM documentation.
