Product Description
The IBM TS2280 (machine type 3580, model H8S) is a stand-alone LTO Ultrium 8 half-high tape drive with two 6 Gb SAS ports. It writes LTO-8 cartridges at 12 TB native and up to 30 TB compressed (2.5:1). Native data rate is up to 300 MB/s. It also reads and writes LTO-7 cartridges. Uninitialized LTO-7 media can be formatted as Type M (M8) at 9 TB native and up to 22.5 TB compressed. The drive can sit on a shelf or mount in an optional 2U rack shelf that holds two drives side by side. It is not a library drive.

- Hosts: IBM Power Systems with a supported SAS tape adapter, and other hosts with a supported 6 Gb SAS HBA
- Software: IBM i, AIX, and Linux backup applications that support LTO-8
- Media: LTO-8 and LTO-7 data cartridges, including WORM media. Uninitialized LTO-7 cartridges for Type M format. Use a universal Ultrium cleaning cartridge
- Mounting: Desktop or optional 2U rack shelf for up to two drives
- Limitations: Stand-alone drive only. Does not fit a TS4300, TS3100, or TS3200 library. Does not read LTO-6 or earlier cartridges. SAS cables are ordered separately. Confirm host adapter and operating system support before install
