The IBM FlashSystem 5200 supports a range of high-performance NVMe drives in its compact 1U control enclosure, including exclusive IBM FlashCore Module 4 (FCM4) with hardware-accelerated compression, encryption, MicroLatency technology, and advanced flash management, as well as industry-standard self-encrypting NVMe flash drives and Storage Class Memory (SCM) options for ultra-low latency tiering with Easy Tier. All drives are 2.5-inch SFF NVMe format, dual-port, hot-swappable, and can be intermixed within the enclosure following configuration rules (e.g., same type and capacity per DRAID array for optimal compression and performance). Up to 12 drives are supported in the control enclosure. FCM4 drives provide performance-neutral inline compression and encryption, enabling higher effective capacity and real-time ransomware detection capabilities when paired with IBM Storage Virtualize.
