These cards provide the necessary SAS connectivity to attach supported expansion enclosures (models 12G, 24G, and 92G), allowing the system to scale capacity beyond the control enclosure. Each card supports active SAS ports for expansion chains, and the pair enables redundant, high-availability attachment of up to 20 expansion enclosures (depending on configuration rules).
