The IBM AL27 (feature code AL27) is a 900 GB 10,000 rpm 12 Gb SAS hard disk drive packaged in a 3.5-inch carrier. It is intended for use in LFF (Large Form Factor) expansion enclosures, such as the FlashSystem 5200 model 12G and compatible systems. This enterprise-class drive provides reliable spinning-disk capacity for tiered storage configurations, bulk data, or nearline workloads when paired with the FlashSystem control enclosure.

- Expansion Enclosures: IBM FlashSystem 5200 model 12G (4662-12G) and equivalent LFF expansion enclosures on related FlashSystem / Storwize platforms
- Environments: Systems running IBM Storage Virtualize
- Limitations: Supported only in compatible 3.5-inch drive bays. All drives in an array should be of the same type and capacity. Verify firmware levels and population rules via IBM documentation. Note: This feature was withdrawn from new orders as of January 2022 but remains available for existing systems and secondary market.
