The IBM 9824-42A S1124 is a 4U Power11 scale-out server configured for AIX. It uses two 30-core POWER11 processor modules for 60 cores, DDR5 memory, and enterprise NVMe storage in a rack-mount form factor.

The IBM 9824-42A S1124 Power11 60-Core AIX Server comes configured with a 60-core POWER11 processor (two #EP3Y 30-core modules, 2.8–3.95 GHz), 256 GB DDR5 memory, 1.6 TB enterprise NVMe storage for AIX/Linux, PowerVM Enterprise Edition, four redundant power supplies, a 2-port 10 GbE adapter, and a full set of enterprise features. The server supports hot-plug components and is a larger upgrade path from older Power8, Power9, and Power10 AIX systems. Memory can be expanded well beyond the base configuration, up to 8 TB DDR5 on the S1124.

Compatibility
The IBM 9824-42A S1124 Power11 30-Core AIX Server is compatible with:
- Operating systems: AIX 7.3 with supported TLs and service packs. AIX 7.2 with supported TLs in Power9 compatibility mode. Linux on Power when mixed partitions are required
- Minimum AIX with virtual I/O: AIX 7.3 TL 7300-02 SP2 or AIX 7.2 TL 7200-05 SP8
- Minimum AIX with direct I/O: AIX 7.3 TL 7300-02 SP4 or AIX 7.2 TL 7200-05 SP10
- Storage / expansion: Additional NVMe U.2 drives for AIX/Linux and supported drawers
- Networking: 2-port 10 GbE plus optional PCIe adapters
- Limitations: 48-core S1124 using two #EP3X modules. Maximum 8 TB DDR5 and 16 NVMe U.2 bays on 9824-42A. AIX 7.2 LPARs run in Power9 compatibility mode. Match firmware, HMC level, and AIX TL/SP to feature EP3Y
