The IBM EMXF is a PCIe Gen3 6-slot fanout module designed for the EMX0 PCIe3 I/O Expansion Drawer. This module installs into the EMX0 drawer and provides six full-height, full-length PCIe Gen3 slots (2 × x16 + 4 × x8), enabling high-density I/O expansion for network adapters, storage HBAs, NVMe controllers, GPUs, and other PCIe cards in AIX, IBM i, Linux, and VIOS environments on Power8, Power9, and select Power10 systems.

The IBM EMXF (feature code EMXF, CCIN 50C9) is a 6-slot fanout module that fits into the EMX0 PCIe Gen3 I/O Expansion Drawer. Each module delivers six PCIe Gen3 slots: two wired as x16 and four as x8, all full-height/full-length, using blind-swap cassettes (BSC) for hot-plug maintenance. It connects to the drawer’s optical interface via dual CXP ports and supports active optical cables (AOC) from the host server’s PCIe3 Optical Cable Adapter (#EJ05, #EJ07, #EJ08). The EMXF is fully intermixable with the newer #EMXG module in the same drawer and is qualified for low-latency, high-throughput PCIe lane extension (up to 64 Gbps per x8 link). It is ideal for scaling I/O capacity beyond the host server’s internal slots, supporting high-density virtualization, large databases, AI/ML accelerators, high-speed networking, and storage expansion on AIX, IBM i (iSeries/AS/400), Linux, and VIOS platforms.
