The IBM ESF9 (feature code ESF9, part number 00E9961, CCIN 59DB) is a 1.2 TB 10,000 rpm SAS disk drive mounted on a Generation-3 (SFF-3) 2.5-inch carrier. IBM may ship the drive formatted with 4096-byte sectors (1.2 TB) or 4224-byte sectors (1.14 TB). Using 4224-byte sectors provides additional data integrity protection. Reformatting large drives takes significant time. The drive is supported in SFF-3 SAS bays in POWER9 system units. Feature ESF8 is the physically related IBM i version of this 10K SFF-3 4K family.
