IBM 6380 is a 2.5 GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape Unit is an optional feature that provides read/write compatibility through all supported AS/400 1/4-Inch Cartridge (QIC) tape formats.
The 2.5 GB 1/4-inch Cartridge Tape Unit supports the following media and formats
Read/Write 2.5GB QIC-2GB - DC9250 Data Cartridge
Read/Write 1.2GB QIC-1000 - DC9120 Data Cartridge
Read/Write 525MB QIC-525 - 6525 Data Cartridge media
Read/Write 120MB QIC-120 - 6150 or 6320 Data Cartridge media
Read 53MB QIC-24 (From 6157 Tape Unit or 5363 Tape Drive (FC 2605).
Effective data rate of 300 Kbytes per second when operating in the QIC-2GB or QIC-1000 format, 200K bytes per second when operating in the QIC-525 format and 120K bytes per second when operating in the QIC-120 format. Feature #6380 can be mounted in a system unit or in Expansion Features 7117/9117 (4XX models), Expansion Features 5070/5072 (5XX models), I/O Towers 5062/5063. It may be used for save/restore, alternate IPL, program distribution, migration and 1/4- inch Cartridge tape exchange. Hardware data compression (HDC) is supported.
