The IBM EMXH (feature code EMXH, CCIN 50CB) is a PCIe Gen3 6-slot fanout module that fits into the EMX0 PCIe Gen3 I/O Expansion Drawer. It delivers six PCIe Gen3 slots: two wired as x16 and four as x8, all full-height/full-length, using blind-swap cassettes (BSC) interchangeable with those from older 12X PCIe I/O drawers (#5802/5877/5803/5873). The module features dual CXP ports for connection to the host server via PCIe Optical Cable Adapters (#EJ05, #EJ07, #EJ08) and active optical cables (AOC pair). As a direct follow-on to the EMXF module, EMXH includes minor physical enhancements for broader PCIe adapter compatibility (larger/broader cards) while remaining functionally identical and fully intermixable with EMXF in the same drawer. Firmware 8.4 or later enables concurrent maintenance (though the module's slots go offline during service). The EMXH is ideal for scaling I/O capacity beyond the host server’s internal slots, supporting high-density virtualization, large databases, AI/ML accelerators, high-speed networking, and storage expansion on AIX, IBM i (iSeries/AS/400), Linux, and VIOS platforms.
