    The IBM FlashSystem 7300 expansion enclosures provide scalable capacity for the 7300 control enclosure, supporting a mix of high-performance flash, enterprise disk, and high-capacity nearline drives. Available in SFF (Small Form Factor) and LFF (Large Form Factor) configurations, including a high-density option, these 2U or 5U rack-mounted units connect via SAS for reliable tiered storage. They enable DRAID 1 or DRAID 6 formatting for enhanced data protection and efficiency.

    Drives of the same form factor and technology can be intermixed within an enclosure. Specific drive feature codes are configured at order time based on IBM options.

    Compatibility

    • Designed exclusively for attachment to IBM FlashSystem 7300 control enclosures (e.g., 4657-924 or 4657-U7D).
    • Supports intermixing of expansion models (12G, 24G, 92G) within the same system.
    • Requires SAS Enclosure Attachment adapter (feature code ADBA or equivalent) in the control enclosure.
    • Compatible with IBM Storage Virtualize software features for virtualization, tiering, and data reduction.
    • Integrates with environments supporting VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, and other hypervisors/container platforms via the control enclosure.
    • Does not support intermixing with older machine type expansions (e.g., 2076 series).
