IBM 5709 is a SCSI RAID controller which is installed into its own specific internal slot of a system unit and does not require a PCI slot. It functionally replaces the base integrated disk controller, adding RAID functionality and 16MB disk controller cache. A minimum of three disk units is required for a RAID disk array.
